Defense, abbreviated in-game to DEF, is a stat that is generally used to calculate how much damage an Agent or Enemy will take.
Agent Stat Calculation[]
Most stats (ATK, HP, DEF, Impact, Anomaly Proficiency, Anomaly Mastery, Energy Regen) start with a base value, and can be further increased by bonuses. Base value is gained naturally when Agents and W-Engines are leveled, as well as from leveling up Core Passives.
Stat bonuses are divided into two categories: unconditional bonuses (e.g. stats from Drive Discs, secondary stats of W-Engines) and conditional bonuses (e.g. buffs provided by Agent skills, set bonuses of Drive Discs, buffs from eating at the Noodle Shop). When a character enters combat, all unconditional bonuses are first applied and stats are frozen. When additional in-combat bonuses are gained, they use the frozen stats as base.

For the remaining stats (CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, PEN, Pen Ratio, DMG Bonus), all bonuses are additive.

- Drive Disc Partition 3 is guaranteed to have a Main Stat of Flat DEF.
- Drive Disc Partitions 4, 5, and 6 can have a Main Stat of DEF%.
- Any Drive Disc Partition can have a Sub-Stat of Flat DEF and/or DEF%.
